Commonly Used Materials Of 3D Printing Service Prototype Processing

Prototype processing requires high technology and quality assurance. For example, CNC prototype technology. With the rapid development of CALD/CAM technology and computer numerical control technology, CNC prototype technology with CAD/CAM technology as the core can directly and quickly process the required prototype model based on product requirements. The main technological processes are:


1. Data model conversion and processing: including data model conversion, curve generation and processing, supplementation of processing surfaces, prototype model splitting;


2. Common parameter setting and optimization: including work piece blank setting, tool setting, height setting, post-processing;


3. CNC processing: including two-dimensional blasting processing, three-dimensional contour processing, equidistant finishing;


4. Post-processing of the prototype model: including bonding, filing, surface processing.


The materials used in the processing of prototypes and parts are mainly divided into metals and plastics. Among them, the common metals are aluminum alloy and stainless steel. Aluminum alloy has low density, but high strength, good processing performance, excellent welding characteristics and electroplating. It has excellent characteristics such as high resistance, good corrosion resistance, high toughness, no deformation after processing, compact material without defects, easy polishing, easy color film, and good oxidation effect. After sandblasting and oxidation treatment, the appearance will look better. Stainless steel is resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, water, acid and alkali resistance, high density, good corrosion resistance and not easy to damage.


Commonly used plastic materials include ABS, POMPMMA, PA, PC, PP, PPS. Among them, ABS is an engineering plastic, which is commonly used in the processing of prototype parts manufacturers, with impact resistance, heat resistance, and low temperature resistance. It also has the characteristics of easy processing, stable product size, and good surface gloss. It can be disassembled and processed to meet the basic requirements of products in various industries.


POM: It is a hard and dense material with a smooth surface and good gloss. Meanwhile it also has good bending strength, fatigue resistance and abrasion resistance which is suitable for making some gear parts.


PMMA: Commonly known as acrylic or plexiglass, it has better transparency than PC materials, and excellent heat resistance.


PA: It is also known as nylon which has high mechanical strength, good toughness, no glue, and it is not recommended to disassemble parts for processing.


PC: It has the characteristics of high impact strength, good dimensional stability, colorless and transparent, good colorability, good abrasion resistance, high temperature resistance. So it is also a transparent material.


PP: Polypropylene has the characteristics of low density, rigid strength, hardness and heat resistance, which is better than low pressure polyethylene. So it can be used at a temperature of about 1℃.


PPS: It is a kind of high temperature resistant material, which cannot be deformed at a temperature of 230 degrees!
